Equipment - Cane haulage and infield loading
Kaufmann Agricultural Consultants worked with Bell to develop the first of these units for specific customer need. This was the infield loading of cane for direct delivery to the mill over an average 16km haul from furrow irrigated fields on very heavy class 13 soils. The Agronomists insisted on a max 3 bar tyre pressure, * tonne axle load, a track that fitted the interrow and minimum stool damage on turning next to the concrete tertiary canal.

Examples of transferring cane from infield to road systems
A Bell S16B Hauler based on the Bell B16 Articulated dump truck. The improved ergonomics of this unit over the conventional Tractor unit. The Improved Traction, Positive steering, Suspensioned ride, Air-conditioned cab, Easy access all combined to result in some 10% extra payload in a season.
A Bell 1756f Hauler fitted with Trelleborg tyres, part of a fleet of units moving some 30,000t of cane each in a 8 month season a distance of 12kms in 27t payload. The tractor unit unhitches both trailers separately near the field on a hard road. The tractor then hitches the rear trailer and takes it infield for loading, once it is full it is returned to road side and exchanged for the empty front trailer which is then filled infield. The tractor and front trailer return to the rear trailer hitches it up and proceeds to the mill. In total it takes some 40 minutes from arriving at field side until departing fully laden.
