A previous company that I worked for was restructured shortly after I left and the laser system was thrown in the cupboard. The surveyor who was responsible for the field designs and layout was made redundant. Now some 10 years later the surveyor has been rehired, and recently was reviewing what had happened to the Laser levelled fields. He found that the laser levelled fields were holding yield for more ratoons and 15% higher yields than fields which were replanted after the laser system had been scrapped. Guess What? The equipment has been resurrected and is being repaired.

Another sugar estate was digging trenches for infield drains and asked for a laser demo which was set up on an excavator and proved so successful that we never got the demo equipment back and were requested to supply a complete second system. Shortly before we could deliver the second system we were told to cancel the order as the retained demo set had increased the work rate from 60m to 75m/hr and enabled the one machine to double shift into the night and a second unit was no longer required and the 2nd excavator was released from hire..
