A Burundi sugar estate was in need of some spares for very old cane trailers. An associate was in the region and called on the estate he measured the parts and made a sketch of the items required.

Kaufmann Agricultural Consultants converted the sketch into an engineering drawing and put it out for quotes. Suitable materials were agreed upon and the quote approved by the client who then raised the letter of credit.

The parts were manufactured and some 750kgs of parts were dispatched. But that was a problem in its own right the parts had to be consigned by road through South Africa, Botswana and Zambia to Mpulungu port on Lake Tanganyika and then by lake steamer to Burundi, the delivery took longer than the manufacture.
